Anaesthetic
Local Anaesthetic
Local infiltration, application of special pointment beforehand, hence complete avoidance of pain-in my clinic eventually with (light sleep) sedation.
General Anaesthetic
Full anaesthetic. This will be performed by a special anaesthesiologist. Which anaesthetic procedure to choose depends on clinical findings, patient history, patients' choice.
Abdominoplasty
Q: Is it possible to do the operation as a daycase?
A: No, usually a 2 days stay is necessary.
Q: What is exactly an abdominoplasty?
A: A hanging 'belly' between the belly buttton and the pubic hairline will be reduced and the contures of the body appear in a slimmer shape.Usually it is necessary to release the belly button and to position again in the 'old' place. That way, an aesthetic result can be achieved.
Depending on the clinical findings and history of the patient(e.g.pregnancies) a tightening of the belly muscles is recommendable, which produces often a very pleasing aesthetic result.
Breastaugmentation
Q: Which types of implants are needed?
A: Two types of implants are generally distinguished:
I. Siliconimplants
II. Normal-Saline Implants.
Both have a siliconcoat.
Q: Is there an increased risk for cancer?
A: Huge multicenter studies have shown no link between the implants and development of cancer.
Q: Which types of implants are possible?
A: There are so called textured and nontextured implants, depending on the type of fabric of the coat of the implant. The textured ones have shown to reduce the risk for capsulare contracture of the breast. Then there are different types of profile for the implants, depending on the form. E.g. there are forms which project different parts of the breast, depending on the individual and the findings.
The implants I use are of highest standards and have passed the security standards of the FDA in the USA and are long time established.
These are little bit more expensive. I do only use quality products which I am convinced of. I am mainly interested in a long term result.
Q: Which Operation techniques are performed?
A: inframammary fold (below the breast)
transaxillary (closed to hte axilla)
transareolar (through the nipple)
Furthermore one distinguishes the positioning of the implants. Either below the breastmuscle or below the breasttissue itself. Generally there are many advantages in the method above the muscle below the breast tissue. It depends very much on the individual body, which method is preferable. I prefer the incision within the (new) breastfold, this allows me a perfect positioning of the implant. Therefore it gives a very good aesthetic result and- in my hands- a very good scarring result. It also allows a good operative view and therefore a thorough hemostasis is possible and reduces the risk for postoperative bleeding and long term has a lower risk for capsulare contracture of the breast. The areolar incision implies the risk of bad scarring and therefore is unreliable to produce an aesthetic acceptable result.
Q: How long does an implant last? Do I need another surgery later?
A: An implant lasts 7-12 years, sometimes patients have the implant without any problems for 15 to 20 years. One has to consider that the quality of the implants today is much better and especially in the recent years improved a lot. However, one has to expect definitely an exchange of implants. Rule of thumb: for the next 20 years a chance of 50%.
Breastreduction and -lift
Q: Which method do you prefer?
A: there are several methods, depending on the clinical findings like breast size and form and preferred technique. The techniques are distinguished by the incisions and mainly by the anatomical blood supply of the breast. I always prefer a natural shape of the breast with minimal scarring. The final scar either looks like an inverted T (in the inframammary fold) or a single vertikal line below the nipple.
Q: How long is the stay after surgery? What do I have to pay attention for?
A: usually 2 days stay with early movilization following the surgery is necessary, sometimes 1 day. After 2 weeks it is possible to do normal day life activities It is recommended to wear a sport bra for 6 weeks after surgery. The brand is not important, rather that the bra is free of pressure-zones and is comfortable.
Eyelidsurgery
Q: Is it possible to have the operation under Local Anaesthetics?
A: Yes, in almost all cases is a local infiltration of local anesthetics possible. We will use a special ointment beforehand, which numbs the area, so the injection will be painfree.
Q: Is it possible to go home the same day?
A: Yes, it is possible to be discharged the same day after a short period of rest and relaxation. Of course it is possible to stay over night on request.
Q: Are there huge swellings or bruises postoperatevely and how long do they last?
A: So called hematoma and swellings are very normal after the operation. Through special treatment and medication we will reduce the risk as much as possible.
General
Q: How are your prices in comparison to others?
A: My prices principally are orientated at the price guide for medical doctors defined by the government and reflect an excellent value for the money. I see myself as a qualified specialist and do not compare myself with nonspecialists on the market.
Liposuction
Q: I would like to have liposuction on my thighs, I am scared of the anesthetics. Is it possible to do the surgery under local?
A: This is principally dependent on the amount of fat which can be removed, also on the location and the general condition and clinical findings. Many cases are possible to be treated under local anaesthetics. Usually local anesthesia will be infiltrated with Normal Saline, which eases the procedure of liposuction.
Q: How huge is the the risk of getting skinwrinkles after liposuction?
A: This is dependent on the surgeon and the technique. But everybody has an individual scarring and healing.Very important is that you are wearing consequently the compression underwear for at least 6 weeks.
Q: Is it possible to have Liposuction on several areas of the body at once?
A: Yes, but an upper total volume limit must be respected for your own safety. It is rather recommendable to do separate operations on different dates.
Q: Is it possible that the fatcells will grow again?
A: The removed fat cells will not be replaced and do not regrow.
Q: Is it possible to do liposuction as a daycase?
A: Yes, it is possible to be discharged after a recovery period. In huge volumes of liposuction I definitely recommend a stay over night for your own safety and wellbeing.
Nosecorrections
Q: Is it possible to do a correction under local anaesthesia? Is it possible to be treated as a daysurgery case?
A: Principally yes. Often the treatment of the bony structure will be necessary. For painfree treatment and patient´ comfort a general anaestheticis is necessary. Only in small procedures without bone involvement an operation under local anaesthesia can be recommended.
Q: Is it necessary to stay overnight?
A: Yes, an overnight stay is almost always essential.
Q: My friend had a plaster of paris following rhinoplasty. Is this always the case and for how long it needs to be carried for?
A: It is benefitial and standard to have a splint following rhinoplasty, either a plaster of paris or a special plastic splint. It will stay for 2 weeks.
Q: How will long will swellings last?
A: In the first 2 weeks the majority of the swelling will be reduced and the bruises close to the eye area will be alleviated. In the following 3 months the rest-swelling will be further reduced and for the next 9 months there will be a minimal rest swelling- hardly noticable though- until the final result will be achieved.
Q: Which operation-methods are available?
A: One distinguishes the so called 'closed' from the 'open' rhinoplasty. The closed method means the cut will be made within the nostril, hence not visible for the environment. The open technique will be performed with a small z-incision between the nostrils on the skin and therefore minimally visible. In many cases a closed rhinoplasty approach can be used. In difficult postraumatic cases or after previous surgery an open approach is recommended.
Pain
Q: Who is using a special technique to avoid sickness after surgery?
A: It is my special interest, that patients have no pain at all and feel comfortable and at ease during the procedure.
It is furthermore scientifically proven, that pain means stress and produces a prolonged recovery and bad blood circulation with a potential bad aesthetic result.
Upper Arm Lift
Q: Where is the scar? Is it very visible?
A: The scar will be on the inside of the upper arm und hence protected from the common view.
Q: Does the operation have to be under general anaesthetics?
A: Depending on the clinical findings and patients' wish a local anaesthesia is appropriate and possible. And the patient can go home the same day.
